Seino Jongkees is group leader in Chemical Biology and Biotechnology in the Department of Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He studied chemistry, biochemistry and philosophy at the University of Otago, New Zealand, pursued a PhD in Chemistry at the University of British Columbia, Canada, and his post-doctoral work took him to the University of Tokyo, Japan. He established his independent group in the Netherlands, first as tenure-track assistant professor at Utrecht University and then with tenure at VU Amsterdam, with promotion to associate professor in 2023. Research in his group focuses on application and development of mRNA display and genetic code reprogramming technologies for discovery of advanced peptide drug candidates and biological tools.
