James Brien, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor at Saint Louis University
Speaker

Profile

James Brien is an Assistant Professor of Molecular Microbiology & Immunology at Saint Louis University, whose laboratory studies the immune mechanisms that underlie durable B cell responses that lead to protection from viral infection. He earned his Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts from the University of Rochester. He has had scientific training in the Laboratory of Drs. Raymond Welsh & Eva Szomolanyi-Tsuda on T cell independent antibody responses to infection. He completed his PhD training in the laboratory of Dr. Janko Nickolich-Zugich defining the impact of immune senescence on viral infection. He completed his postdoctoral work in the laboratory of Dr. Michael Diamond, working on the mechanisms of antibody and B cell mediated control of viral infections. His own laboratory uses a range of viral vaccines to interrogate B cell and antibody mediated protection against severe viral disease, and the control of viral variants.
