Sowmya received her Masters in Biological Sciences from Birla Institute of Technology and Science (India). She proceeded to do her PhD in Biotechnology from the Swiss Federal Institute (EPFL), Lausanne under guidance of Prof. Florian Wurm which focused on use of transposon systems for Cell Line Development. She did her post doc at Eli Lilly and Company, Indianapolis and then started her career as Cell Line Development scientist at ATUM, Newark. She joined Genentech in Oct 2020 as group leader of Research Materials Group doing protein expression using transient platforms to support R&D and Development.
