Terry Rabbitts
Professor of Molecular Immunology at Institute of Cancer Research
Speaker

Profile

Prof. Terry Rabbitts is a molecular immunologist who trained at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) in Cambridge with César Milstein and Fred Sanger. He is currently Professor of Molecular Immunology at the Institute of Cancer Research,

Terry Rabbitts discovered new families of oncogenic proteins in leukaemia and sarcoma from chromosomal translocations. As an approach to therapy of these hard-to-drug proteins, he developed new therapeutic methodologies based on intracellular antibodies per se and by using them to produce chemical surrogates. This closed a loop from discovery science to new therapeutics.

He is a Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS), a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences (FMedSci), an EMBO Member and a Fellow of the American Association for Cancer Research Academy (FAACR). He has been awarded the Colworth Medal, the CIBA Medal and the Clotten Foundation Prize in recognition for his work on human antibody diversity and rearrangement, chromosomal translocation genes in cancer aetiology and novel approaches to cancer drug discovery.
