Principal Scientist at Merck Research Labs
Paul graduated with his B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Mary Washington in 2007 where he performed his Honors Research in the field of Electrogenerated Chemiluminescence under the direction of Raymond Scott. He then received his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2012, where his research advisor was Mark Wightman. At UNC, Paul used Fast-Scan Cyclic Voltammetry to detect and quantify chemical messengers in tissue slices of the brain, spinal cord, and adrenal gland of transgenic and knock-out mice. Since graduating from UNC, Paul has been a research scientist in the Pharmaceutical Sciences division of Merck Research labs. There, Paul has spent time in both the Discovery Pharmaceutics and most recently the Drug Product Analytical Development group where he has worked on numerous research projects including controlled release dosage forms, amorphous solid dispersions, predictive technologies for preclinical species, and the development and characterization of analytical methods for synthetic peptide and oligonucleotide drug products.
