Jürgen KöhlSenior Scientist - Plant diseases | Biological control at Wageningen University & Research, Netherlands
Jürgen Köhl studied at the faculty of Agriculture at the University of Giessen, Germany, and obtained his PhD in 1989. Since 1989, he has worked as plant pathologist in Wageningen, the Netherlands. His research focuses on sustainable solutions ensuring plant health. Main topics are the biological control of fungal plant pathogens using antagonistic fungi and methods for disease prevention. Understanding disease epidemiology often is the first step into such studies. During the last few years, he has worked on disease management in cereals, pome fruits and vegetables, with emphasis on leaf and fruit diseases; and selected in large screening programs new antagonists against apple scab and powdery mildew. He is convenor of the IOBC-WPRS working group ‘Biological and integrated control of plant pathogens’.
