Prof. of Biochemistry at University of Leipzig
Upon receiving his MD in 1983 he became a Professor for Biochemistry at the University of Leipzig. He was a visiting researcher at the universities of Lund and Umea (Sweden) where he developed new methods for protein separation. He joined the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Long Beach, where he established cell separation technologies based on two-phase polymer systems. Strong scientific cooperation was established with researchers from the Université de Technologie de Compiègne and the Pasteur Institute in Paris. In the last decades he focused his research on the human protease inhibitor alpha2-macroglobulin and his role in tumor metabolism. Currently, he interest focused on the role of glyoxalases in cancer and in developing strategies for tumor inhibition. He runs companies marketing novel drugs against cancer and biofilms in infected diabetic foot ulcers. He holds a number of patents and has published more than 100 scientific papers. Since 2017 he is the acting president of the World Stevia Organization.
