Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at University of the Pacific
Mamoun Alhamadsheh is an associate professor in the Department of Pharmaceutics and Medicinal Chemistry at the University of the Pacific, CA. He received his PhD in Organic Chemistry at the University of Toledo and did his postdoctoral studies in Chemical Biology at Portland State University and Stanford University. Alhamadsheh’s research group employs an interdisciplinary approach to study protein amyloidosis, combining synthetic organic chemistry with biochemistry and molecular biology. His group recently developed AG10, a small molecule that prevents amyloidosis of the plasma protein Transthyretin. Another active area of research in Alhamadsheh’s group is developing novel technologies to enhance the in vivo half-life of therapeutic peptides. These technologies would decrease the production cost of therapeutic peptides and increase the clinical success rate. Dr. Alhamadsheh is the recipient of New Investigator Award from the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy. He is the co-founder of Eidos Therapeutics and has co-authored five patents and 20 articles in peer-reviewed journals.
