Clinical Professor, College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at St. John's University
Dr. Judith Beizer is a tenured Clinical Professor at St. John's University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, in Queens, NY. She previously served as Chair of the Department of Clinical Pharmacy Practice at the University and is currently serving as Assistant Chair. As part of her duties, Dr. Beizer serves as a clinical pharmacist at the Stern Family Center for Rehabilitation, a long-term care and sub-acute rehabilitation facility in the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System. At the Stern Center, Dr. Beizer provides clinical pharmacy services, precepts doctor of pharmacy students, and serves on the faculty of the geriatric medicine fellowship program. Dr. Beizer is a Certified Geriatric Pharmacist. Dr. Beizer received her bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from the St. Louis College of Pharmacy and then earned a doctor of pharmacy degree from the University of Tennessee. After pursuing a residency in clinical pharmacy at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, she completed a fellowship in geriatric pharmacy at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, NY. Dr. Beizer is a past president of the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP). Dr. Beizer was the 2001 recipient of the ASCP Richard S. Berman Service Award and she serves on the Editorial Advisory Board of The Consultant Pharmacist, the official journal of ASCP. Dr. Beizer is a past-Chair of the Board of Commissioners of the Commission for Certification in Geriatric Pharmacy (CCGP), serving five years on the board. She is a past chairperson of the Special Interest Group on Geriatric Pharmacy Practice of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. Dr. Beizer is currently serving on the American Geriatrics Society (AGS) Public Policy Committee. She served on the expert panel that developed the 2012 AGS Beers Criteria and is serving on the expert panel for the 2015 update. In 2003, Dr. Beizer received the Distinguished Alumna Award for Service to the Profession from the St. Louis College of Pharmacy. Dr. Beizer is a co-editor of the book, Geriatric Dosage Handbook, which is currently in its 20th edition. Dr. Beizer regularly speaks on the topic of medication use in the elderly to both health professionals and senior adult groups. She has published articles and abstracts on various issues in geriatric pharmacotherapy.
