Nathan Lewis, PhD
Associate Professor, Department of Pediatrics & Bioengineering at University of California, San Diego


Dr. Lewis is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Bioengineering at the University of California, San Diego. During his BS (Biochemistry, Brigham Young University), PhD (Bioengineering, UC San Diego) and postdoctoral work (Genetics, Harvard Medical School), he developed novel approaches for analyzing biological big data using genome-scale systems biology modeling techniques. In parallel, he helped lead efforts to sequence the genome of the Chinese hamster and several CHO cell lines. Dr. Lewis' lab integrates all of his previous work by focusing heavily on the use of systems biology and genome editing techniques to map out and engineer the cell pathways controlling mammalian cell growth, metabolism, protein synthesis, and protein glycosylation, in an effort to develop improved protein expression hosts.
