Profile
Dr. Groff is a senior principal scientist at Sutro Biopharma, where he is responsible for strain engineering and platform development. In this role, he helps engineer Sutro’s proprietary cell free protein synthesis platform which was used to discover and manufacture the worlds’ first 6 cell-free produced molecules to enter clinical trials. He holds undergraduate degrees in mathematics, biology and chemistry from the College of Idaho in 2002 and a PhD in chemical biology from The Scripps Research Institute for work with genetically encoded photoactive unnatural amino acids in 2009. His training continued as a postdoc in the lab of Jay Keasling where he gained experience engineering bacteria to convert biomass into biofuels.
