Post-doctoral Researcher, Department of Immunology at University Hospital Zurich
My name is Natalia Venetz-Arenas (formerly Arenas-Ramirez). I am Colombian and after finishing my high school studies in Bogota I came to Europe (France) in 2003 to perform my Master in Biotechnology. In 2008 I joined Genentech for an internship where I was able to discover the drug development field in the protein engineering department. This experience led me to further gain knowledge on the development of biotherapeutics. Later on the same year I obtained a position as a Research Associate in Molecular Partners (Zürich, Switzerland). I was involved in the development of multi-specific DARPins for the treatment of auto-immune diseases and cancer. My passion for new pharmaceuticals drove me to expand my expertise. I therefore decided to pursue a PhD with Prof. Onur Boyman in the field of cancer immunology and antibody generation. During this time, I developed and characterized a novel anti-human interleukin-2 antibody (NARA1) enhancing the in vivo properties of the cytokine for the treatment of melanoma. Currently, as a post-doctoral researcher in the same laboratory, I am pursuing the characterization and further applications of NARA1 in order to bring it forward to the clinics.
