Senior Scientist, Sunnybrook Research Institute, Professor, Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology at University of Toronto
Dr Aubert obtained her PhD in neurosciences from McGill University, Montréal, Canada. She was a post-doctoral fellow at the Salk Institute in San Diego, California. Currently, Dr Aubert is a professor at the University of Toronto and a senior scientist leading the Brain Repair Group at Sunnybrook Research Institute (SRI) in Toronto, Canada. Aubert is a member of the Centre of Excellence in Focused Ultrasound at SRI. She is developing therapies to stop degeneration and promote regeneration in Alzheimer’s disease. Aubert is evaluating drug, gene and cell therapies for their potential in maintaining the neural and vascular health, inducting brain repair and restoring cognitive functions such as learning and memory. She uses transcranial low-intensity focused ultrasound to deliver therapeutics, including antibodies for immunotherapy, from the blood to targeted brain areas. She is also evaluating how focused ultrasound, with no therapeutic added, can be utilized to promote neural plasticity, including glial cell activation to reduce amyloid pathology in Alzheimer’s disease and proliferation of hippocampal progenitors to increase adult neurogenesis.
