Folusho Olaniyan

Folusho started her career in the food industry as a management trainee with A.G.Leventis Nigeria. Plc. in 1988. She resigned from Leventis foods as Head of Sales and Marketing in 2005. She was appointed Managing Director/CEO UTC Nig. plc in 2007;a post she held  till 2012 when under her leadership the company pioneered commercialization of 20% cassava flour inclusion in bread and pastries.  She resigned her appointment in 2013 to set up Contact Consulting Nig. Ltd; a Research, Business advisory, and Marketing support services company, focused on Agricultural value chain development and investments..

Contact Consulting Nigeria seeks to help organizations gain in-depth understanding of food-related value chains in markets where data is critical but unavailable or unreliable. She has served as  consultant/ market developer/analyst on several agricultural research projects in Africa, like the Partnerships In Niger Delta Cassava scoping study Project 2014, Bill and Melinda Gates sponsored project CAVA,  , Dalberg IDH Market study on commercial opportunities in commercial cassava production in Nigeria 2015, consultant  Business Development and Marketing Adviser to MADE (Market For Development in The Niger Delta), funded by UK Department for International Development DFID.

Folusho is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing UK, and a member of the Institute of Directors. She holds a Masters degree in Public Administration from the University of Lagos, Nigeria, and a professional postgraduate Diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing , Cookham, United Kingdom. She is a Cochran fellow of the United States Department of Agriculture USDA. 

Folusho is a member of the International Food and Agribusiness Management Association, USA. IFAMA is an organization that brings together the world’s leading scholars, students, NGO professionals, and policy makers to improve the strategic focus and sustainability of the food and agribusiness systems in the world.

Folusho is on the judging panel of the Rockefeller foundation Cassava Yieldwise $1million dollars Challenge fund set up in 2016, and an advisor to Dalberg Global development advisors on the project.Folusho also served as a consultant to Palladium Group United Kingdom, on the West Africa Food Markets Pilot Programme, which launched a £1 million pounds  grant  in 2016.

Folusho is a member of the BASICS-(Building an Economically Sustainable, Integrated Seed System for Cassava In Nigeria) Project Advisory committee, a 4 year project (2016-2019) funded by Bill and Melinda Gates foundation, and coordinated by the Consultative Group for International Agricultural research CGIAR’s Research program on Roots, Tubers, and Bananas RTB. The Project partners include Food and Environment Research Agency of the United Kingdom, and International institute of Tropical Agriculture IITA.  Folusho served as a consultant to the world economic forum in 2016, as Consultant to Grow Africa , saddled with the responsibility of  compilation of Rice fact sheets for 5 ECOWAS countries for the World Economic Forum Investment conference in Kigali, Rwanda, May 2016.

In February 2017, Folusho served as a Consultant to the World Economic Forum on the scoping study and data assessment of maize and soya bean sectors in Tanzania and Ghana, and the coffee sector in Ethiopia. Her firm is collaborating with Grow Africa on data assessment on the ECOWAS Rice offensive strategy for the AGRF forum in Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire 2017.

In recognition of Folusho’s contributions to the Nigerian food industry, she was awarded National honours of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) in September 2014 by the President and Commander in Chief  of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. 

Folusho is the current program Director of Agra innovate West Africa, funded by Informa Group UAE, the world’s largest publicly quoted exhibition company. The annual agribusiness exhibition and conference is attended by 3,000+ visitors from over 20 countries across the globe.
