Tsanko Gechev
Associate Professor and Director at Center of Plant Systems Biology and Biotechnology - representing BioAtlantis

Profile

Dr. Tsanko Gechev is the Director of the Center of Plant Systems Biology and Biotechnology, Plovdiv and Associated Professor at the University of Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Dr Gechev received his Ph.D. in Plant Biochemistry from the University of Plovdiv in 2004. Dr Gechev is specialized in leading institutes such as Flemish Institute of Biotechnology and University of Gent, Belgium, University of Wageningen and University of Groningen, The Netherlands, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Switzerland, Max Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology, Germany and University of Nebraska-Lincoln, USA. His research interests are focused on plant stress responses and programmed cell death. Dr Gechev has contributed to a number of high impact s journals and published >40 peer reviewed articles and have supervised a number of PhD students. He is coordinating broad range of research projects, both fundamental and applied, with over €18 M. of funding obtained from a wide variety of sources.

In one of the EU funded projects, CropStrengthen, his research group, in collaboration with University of Potsdam, Germany and BioAtlantis Ltd., Ireland, proved that a specific biostimulant SuperFifty® is highly efficient in ameliorating abiotic stress in various crops. Dr. Gechev will now share his experience working on Super Fifty®. He will describe how this specific product is acting on genetic and metabolic pathways to reduce abiotic stress in crops. He will then describe how to improve crop performance by using Super Fifty® on crops.
